Driving

Friday, December 19th, 2008

I used to love driving. Back when I first got my licence I would drive everywhere. I had absolutely no problem in hopping in the car and driving home for the weekend. The whole nine hour (or ten or more) round trip.

Well, I have copped on a bit. I take the usually take the train nowadays.

I really like the train. You sit there, people bring you tea, you get to look out the window and watch the world go by, or if you’re like me, you can use the four hours of captivity to get some work done.

I’m never really organised enough to have films or tv programs lined up to watch, so I don’t have anything better to do but work. It’s great.

Plus, in the days of expensive oil, it was much cheaper for me as a student to buy a return ticket, compared to filling up the car tank with petrol at close to €1.40 a litre!

This weekend I’ll be heading home, but I will be taking the car this time. I’m on holidays until February 9th, so I will probably need the car at home, since we live in the back end of nowhere.

But, I guess, driving that journey once or twice can be lived with.

The end approaches…

Friday, December 19th, 2008

It’s Thursday night. I have just finished the last of my assignments to hand in tomorrow, and then that’s it.

We have a test tomorrow morning, and once that’s finished, it’s Holiday Time!

Woohoo!

I’m going to dinner with some friends tomorrow evening, and then most likely a few drinks. I’ll head down to Kerry on Saturday. Hopefully, I won’t overdo it tomorrow night, and the head will be fine for the drive.

Holidays! I’m so excited…

Budweiser Christmas Ads

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

It is officially Christmas for me when a few different things happen. One of them is seeing this ad on tv. And I just saw it a while ago. Late enough!

However, I can’t find the exact version I want. But, this is close enough.

Love it.

Advertising

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

So, being a student. And not a particularly well-off one, I’m always looking for ways of making money. I give grinds (tutoring). And that is pretty much the only source of regular income I have during term-time. The rest of the time, I’m living off my savings from my summer job.

My new plan, since I was encouraged to take over the running of the website for the family business www.saildingle.com back in February is to try and focus on making money from th’internet.

I have an idea for a website, that could be somewhat popular. With people of a certain age group. It’s actually pretty specific. But, it’s an idea, and one I’m working on at the moment.

Websites are great, and all, but unless you have a plan for earning money from them, they won’t do your bank balance any good. Advertising seems to be the easiest way of earning money from a website.

So, I have been reading around, looking at different people’s blogs and websites, trying to figure out the best way of monetising my website. Therefore, I’m going to stick a few ads in a few different places on this blog, and see how they turn out. Google Adsense is what I’m going to use for the time being.

I’m not expecting to become a millionaire overnight. But, at least I will have some idea as to how ads work, and how much money I could expect to earn from this whole interweb malarkey.

I’ll let you know how I get on.

Or, why don’t you let me know what you think?

Libertas

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

Do they have anything positive to say about anything?

I watched Questions & Answers last night, and since we will now be having a second Lisbon treaty referendum for sure, all the usual suspects are present on the panel, Mary Lou McDonald, a government representative, in this case Micheál Martin, and a representative of Libertas. I don’t know who she is, but with Declan Ganley over in Brussels gearing up for the European elections next summer, they had to find someone to fill the space.

In any case, she had nothing positive to say about Lisbon. Nothing constructive to contribute when it came to the discussion on the banking rescue package.

Week 12

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

It’s week twelve. It’s the last week of the semester. That means Busy Busy Busy!

All our assignments are now due over the next few days. I have the big one done, a series of ten lesson plans, and a discussion on our teaching methodology. Now, it’s just a few other little bits and pieces that need to be finished off.

I can still see a few late nights over the next week!

Pork.

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

Uh oh.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has recalled all pork products. Apparently some pig feed had been contaminated with PCB. So, since we cannot tell which pork products may be from contaminated pig farms, we have to withdraw all pork products.

We had a big fry-up for brunch today. Loads of pork.

I was really looking forward to a roast pork for dinner tomorrow.

:(

Wine Strand

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

So, seeing as so many people visit this page googling “Wine Strand”, I decided I should write a quick post on my home village.

If you would call a collection of houses a village. No shop. No pub. No nothing, except some houses, and a beach. And, really, what more would you want?

So, here’s a photo of what you can see from Wine Strand. Maybe I’ll make it the first in a series.

Note, I’m not actually standing on the beach, I’m on the sand dunes behind the beach, hence the grassy stuff.
